Education & Training
There are a variety of ways you can get ready for a career in the life sciences.
If you're interested in learning about the life sciences to see if it's right for you, attend one of our workshops or short courses. Or, if you already know you're interested in a career in the life sciences, then your next step may be a training or degree program.
Whatever your goal, there are many options to think about-and iSciWNY can help show you the way.
iSci 1-2-3
Provides a variety of workshops, short courses and certificate programs to introduce you to, and teach you about, the life sciences industry and available careers in Western New York.
Workshops
Provide a broad overview of a general topic or a detailed look at a very specific topic. Workshops are usually a couple of hours long, such as our two-hour iSciWNY Workshop, which introduces you to the life sciences industry and careers in Western New York.
Short Courses
Offered by some colleges, companies, and institutions, these courses often address a specific topic in detail. They usually last over a period of several days or weeks, but do not grant a certificate.
Certificate Programs
Non-degree programs similar to short courses, except they grant an official certificate upon completion, such as the REMeDI Program at UB's Millard Fillmore College or Erie Community College's new biomanufacturing certificate program.
Associates Degrees
Two-year degree programs that prepare students for entry-level positions in the workforce or for admission into a bachelors program.
Bachelors Degrees
Four-year degree programs that prepare students for mid-level positions in the workforce or for admission into a masters program.
Masters Degrees
Depending on the program, these post-graduate degrees may be course-based, research-based, or a mixture of the two. Admission to a masters program requires a bachelors degree.
Ph.D. or M.D. Degrees
Advanced degree programs that offer training for scientists and medical doctors.
